First things first, you'll need to determine which metrics are most important to you in your social media campaigns and overall social marketing strategy. Is engagement and leads what you want to track? Or do you care more about conversions and time on site?

Next, you'll need to pick a goal. What do you want to accomplish with your social media efforts? Good social media goals should fall in line with the greater goals of your company's organization.

Be SMART With Your Objectives

For effective measurement, your metrics need to directly align with the measurable objectives you've set.

Specific 

  • Describe your objective specific to the results you want.

  • Be more specific than just, "increase brand awareness". 

Measurable

  • Use metrics to see if you were effective.
  • A specific objective with show whether or not results were met.

Achievable

  • Set actionable, plausible goals. 

Realistic

  • Ensure you have the resources and tools needed in order to meet your objectives.

Timed

  • Set a time frame for your objectives.
